PPlumbline

An answering service for plumbers

You’re under a sink. The phone rings anyway.

She picks it up in your firm’s name, gets the job down — who, where, what’s wrong, how bad — and it is on your phone before the caller has put theirs down.

Try to catch her out

Ring her07888 874958

Our own line, open to anyone. She will answer as Plumbline, because she has never heard of you yet. Give her a job the way an awkward customer would and see how she handles it.

Three calls a month from one number, then she points you at a human instead. Nothing is written down against your name.

One call, and what was left on the phone

Made up, so you can see the shape of it. Nothing below is a real customer and nobody’s number is in it.

What was said Example

00:00

Good afternoon, your firm — how can I help?

00:04

The hose behind my washing machine has gone, there’s water all over the kitchen.

00:10

Have you got it off at the stopcock?

00:13

Yes, under the sink, just now.

00:16

Good. Can I take your name and the address?

00:21

Ada Okonjo, 41 Fenwick Road, and the postcode is SW19 3QT.

00:48

That’s written down and gone to him now — he’ll ring you back as soon as he’s free.

She says your firm’s name where it is underlined, and she only ever promises what you have told her to promise. One question at a time. No menu, no hold music, no press 1.

What you got Example

Ada Okonjoemergency

waiting 2 min

Burst washing machine hose, kitchen flooded, water off at the stopcock.

41 Fenwick Road, SW19 3QT · 07700 900461

Today, 4pm

She has the water off and towels down. Wants someone today; asked what the callout comes to and I gave her your price.

This is the row as it appears on your own page, and it is there while she is still talking. Your phone buzzes at the same moment. The number above is one of Ofcom’s reserved numbers for made-up examples, so it rings nobody.

What she does, all of it

01
Answers as your firm

Day, night, Sunday. Your own number, diverted when you don’t pick up.

02
Gets the job down

Name, address, the fault and how urgent it is. She reads it back before she lets them go.

03
Puts it on your phone

The second she takes it. Open the page from your home screen like an app.

04
Books a time

Offers a slot and writes it on the job. Put a time to it yourself and it goes in your calendar.

05
Keeps what was said

The whole call, word for word, on the job it belongs to.

06
Prices a quote

Write it up on the job, send it as a PDF, and they accept it on their phone.

What it costs

Two plans. She is the same receptionist on both.

Starter

£29a month

50 calls a month. A quiet month for one van. Every call she takes is kept and readable for 30 days.

Pro

£59a month

Every call that comes. However busy the month gets, she keeps answering. Calls kept for good, and a second person can open the dashboard with you.

Both plans are the whole of her: she answers as your firm, takes the job, books the time, writes the quote. You keep your own number throughout, and she only ever picks up the calls you did not.
